    What Are Digital Audio Books?

Digital books are the digital versions of printed books or cassette or CD audio books, similar to what you would find in cassette or CD format. Digital books can be enjoyed at home, at work, on the treadmill, or even when you travel.

Digital audio books can be downloaded to your computer and used offline. They can be transferred to portable devices and some can even burned to CD. Best of all, digital books are automatically returned, so there are never late fees or extra trips to the library.

    What You Need

Digital books can be used on a variety of MP3 players and operating systems for PCs, laptops and supported PDAs. The digital book site offers digital audio books in the Overdrive Media Console™ format. To access digital books you will need:

    • Your Brentwood library card
    • Brief access to the Internet
    • Space on your computer to download the free software and the audio

    Four Easy Steps

Step 1: Download and Install Digital Book Software
As a first step, you will need to install free software on the computer(s) on which you want to use digital books. The free software is available from this link: digital book software download.

Step 2: Register Your Free Software
Next, you’ll need to register your free software. You only need to register the software once for each computer on which you’ll access books. Registration is a simple online process.

Step 3: Check Out Your Digital Book
Browse the digital book web site  and add a title to your cart. Check it out, and you’re ready to download. Once the download is complete, you can close your Internet connection.

Step 4: Enjoy Your Digital Book
You can listen to your downloaded book directly from your computer’s speakers, or you can save a copy on your MP3 player or PDA. A list of compatible devices can be found on the digital book web site - device resource center.

At the end of the digital book loan period, the title will expire and automatically be ‘returned’ to the library. At this time, you can delete the expired file from your computer. Files that have been copied to MP3 players will not expire.
