INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS AND WINDOWS FOR BEGINNERSThe first hour of class focuses on becoming comfortable with the computer as you learn basic PC component instruction: hardware, software, mouse, and various property boxes. Second hour will focus on basic Windows features: toolbars, start menu, taskbar and common dialog boxes. INTERNET FOR BEGINNERSThis two hour introductory tour of the Internet will focus on the World Wide Web covering internet browsers, basic web surfing, search engines, and downloading. Learn to get driving directions/maps, send free greeting cards, purchase airline tickets, and much more. Class will touch on email basics. Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers/Windows class and/or must be proficient with the mouse. MICROSOFT WORD FOR BEGINNERSLearn how to use this powerful word-processing program. Class will cover components of a typical word window and word toolbars. Learn to create and save a document, along with the many editing and formatting features to change the appearance of the text. Class will also cover previewing and printing documents. Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers/Windows class and/or must be proficient with the mouse and have a good understanding of the keyboard editing keys. MICROSOFT WORD II (DESKTOP PUBLISHING)Microsoft Word provides many of the features you'll find in most commercial desktop publishing programs. Learn all the features that will get you on your way to creating beautiful newsletters, fliers, greeting cards, etc. Prerequisite: Microsoft Word for Beginners. MICROSOFT EXCELThis popular spreadsheet program will introduce you to components of a typical Excel window, Excel toolbars, spreadsheet basics including formulas and formatting cells, rows and columns. Prerequisite: Introduction to Computer/Windows class and/or must be proficient with the mouse and have a good understanding of keyboard editing keys. MICROSOFT POWERPOINT FOR BEGINNERSLearn how to use this creative program to design clear, colorful and organized presentations. Class will cover components of a typical PowerPoint window, PowerPoint toolbars and views, and creation of presentations from scratch, using wizards and templates. Prerequisite: Introduction to Computer/Windows class and/or must be proficient with the mouse and have a good understanding of keyboard editing keys. Evenings only. Class meets at the Brentwood Library. GENEALOGY CLASSFor the family historian interested in exploring ancestors on the internet. This course will introduce you to the two major genealogy databases offered by the library. Basic computing skills and some genealogical research experience necessary. Bring a copy of your pedigree chart to the class! HOW TO BUY AND SELL ON EBAYLearn the basics of buying: registering, searching for items, placing bids, purchasing with PayPal, and even learning more about the seller you’re dealing with.
