A community's history is made up of the stories of the people who have lived there.  Thanks to the efforts of Brentwood Historian T. Vance Little, information about many early Brentwood families has been complied.  Taken from a variety of sources, these pages provide details about local families, their successes and sorrows.

Carothers Family
Information about the family of Robert Carothers, born in Pennsylvania in 1750, who moved to Williamson County about 1797. 14 pages.

Crichlow Family
Information about the Crichlow family including James Crichlow, born in North Carolina in 1793, who married Sarah Nelson, and Elizabeth Guinn Crichlow (1811-1905) who married William Temple Sneed. 30 pages

Crockett Family
Information about descendants of Samuel and Esther (Thompson) Crockett of Virginia who were pioneer Brentwood settlers, particularly their sons Andrew Crockett, born 1745, and John Crockett who married Elizabeth Montgomery. 11 pages.

Edmondson Family
Data on several Edmondson/Edmiston families who came to Tennessee from Virginia in the late 1700s. Includes several accounts written by descendants in various branches of the family including that of Col. William Edmiston, a Revolutionary War soldier, John Edmiston (born ca. 1740) and wife Sarah Donnell, and Samuel Edmiston (born 1738 in Maryland) and wife Elizabeth Donnell. 46 pages.

An article about the family of Capt. John Frost, pioneer Brentwood settler and War of 1812 veteran. 2 pages.

Gray Family
Genealogical charts, census and marriage data about Grays in Tennessee. Also a sketch of the family of John Gray (1760-1838) and wife Anney Price who came to Brentwood from Halifax County, Virginia. 17 pages.

Hadley Family
Account of the marriage of Mary Hadley and Maj. William Clare during the Civil War. 2 pages.

Herbert Family
Genealogy of the Herbert family who settled in Virginia prior to the Revolution. Brothers Nathaniel (1772-1831) and Richard (1777-1834) came to Williamson County. Includes accounts by Robert Nathaniel Herbert and John Green Herbert written ca. 1900 regarding their ancestry, youth and Civil War service. Articles about a tree on the Herbert property which bears historic carvings are also included. 37 pages.

Hill Family
Sketch of Green Hill (died 1826), Williamson County pioneer Methodist preacher. 2 pages.

Holt Family
Information about John and Isabella Hardeman Holt who settled on Crockett Road in the early 1800s. Records include copies of deeds, letters written by J.P. Holt from Texas in the 1890s. Connections to the Herbert and Owen families are documented. 32 pages.

Hunt Family
Brief sketch of Gersham Hunt who came to Brentwood from Rowan County, North Carolina, and was a founder of the Liberty Methodist Church. His father was Jonathan Hunt, a colonel in the Revolutionary War. 2 pages.

Johnston Family
Outline of the heirs of Maj. John Johnston who died in 1816. 1 page.

McDowell Family
Transcription of court records including the 1877 trial of Thomas Waller and others who were accused of attacking J.P. McDowell and his son W.K. McDowell in a public brawl. 3 pages.

McGavock Family
Outline of the family of Lysander McGavock (born 1800) and Elizabeth Crockett (1795-1862). 1 page.

McKay Family
Article about the family of John McKay, tavern owner and founder of Williamson County in 1799, and The Landings apartments which were erected on the McKay farm in the 1980s. 1 page.

McNish Family
Court records pertaining to the settlement of Thomas F. McNish's estate in 1879. 4 pages.

Mayfield Family
    Part 1 Information about the family which established Mayfield Station in the 1780s, including cousins Isaac, James, Southerlin and John Mayfield. Court records of a land dispute between the Mayfield and Haggart families in 1818 are included. 27 pages
    Part 2 Continued Mayfield-Haggart court records; family record of Francis Nunn (born 1752); account of Mayfield family given at Century Nashville III celebration in 1979; correspondence between T. Vance Little and Mayfield descendants. 35 pages

Moore Family
Detailed account of the Moore family of Lincoln County, North Carolina, and of descendant James Moore (1764-1838) who emigrated to Brentwood. His wife was Eleanor Irwin. 22 pages.

Noble Family
Brief account of Albert Noble, who opened a drug store in Brentwood in 1928, and his son Glenn Noble who was a restaurant and motel owner. 2 pages.

Oden Family
Sketch of Dr. Solomon Fletcher Oden (born 1848) and his family. His grandfather was Solomon Oden of Loudon County, Virginia, who married Mildred Athey and came to Tennessee after 1812. 3 pages.

Primm Family
Genealogical material about the Primms of Williamson County, including court records, deeds, wills and correspondence. The earliest settler appears to have been John Primm whose will was probated in 1819. His sons were Jeremiah, Abraham, John Wesley, Charles and Green H. Primm.

Sneed Family
Bible records, correspondence, articles and photographs pertaining to the family of James Sneed (1764-1853) and wife Bethenia Harden Perkins, who were early Brentwood settlers. 35 pages.

Williams Family
Genealogical data and correspondence about the family of Henry Williams (1734-1785) of Caswell County, North Carolina, whose descendants settled in Williamson County. Among them was daughter Jane William who married David Rice Gooch in 1788; Gooch family material is also found in this file. 35 pages.
