ART & CRAFTS

DISCOVER ONE REASON
THE BRENTWOOD LIBRARY IS CALLED “A CENTER FOR THE ARTS”

art lending library

Monthly art displays showcase the talents of local artists. Oil or acrylic paintings, watercolors, pen and ink drawings, pastels, collages or photography --- whatever medium sparks your interest, we have featured it on the gallery walls. In exchange for the display space, the artists generously donate one of their pieces to the circulating art collection.

That’s right! Your library card entitles you to borrow the works of a variety of local talent.

Artwork you can borrow is displayed near the back of the Great Hall on stunning, new shelving sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Check out artwork for 90 days, with two potential renewals, and the borrowing limit is 2 per card. Dress up your home or office with a mini-revolving art collection to awaken your senses and jumpstart your creativity.

Hands holding brainThe Healthy Aging Brain
Thursday, September 4
1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Meeting Room A
Presenter: Susan Bruey, RN, MSN, CHC
Free Seminar

The brain is the most complex part of the human body. People once believed that progressive mental decline was inevitable, but now we know that the brain's ability to age well varies from person to person and is affected by genetic predisposition, genes, life experiences, lifestyle, exposure to toxins and chemicals, accidents, trauma, and disease. Cognitive abilities do not automatically decline with age: the majority of older adults are happy; they live an active,
optimistic life with many friends; and they engage in leisure-time activities that increase not only their quality of life but also their longevity and the health of their brains.

This program is designed for “baby boomers” who are interested in learning about the effects of physical activity, nutrition, mental stimulation, socialization, creativity, attitude, spirituality, and meditation on the healthy aging brain.

To register click on the Brain link and complete the registration form, or call 371-0090 ext. 8510.

Our focus will be the short form of Sun Style Tai Chi and Qigong. Qigong is an ancient healing art which focuses on renewing and balancing the body’s natural flow of internal energy through movement and breath. Tai Chi is a form of Qigong.
